Srinagar: Ten persons missing after avalanche hits Khardung La pass in Ladakh

At least ten persons were reported missing after three vehicles came under an avalanche in Ladakh area of Kashmir on Friday, reports said.

They said that an avalanche hit Khardung La mountain pass at 7 AM.

Two tippers and a Scorpio car, which were carrying a total of 12 people, left for Khardung La this morning to load snow which was to be brought to Leh, reported news agency ANI.

A tipper had been loaded with snow while the other one was being filled with the same when the avalanche struck, it said.

Border Roads Organisation under Project Himank has pressed into service its men with equipment to rescue the missing persons.

Officials of the Project Himank said that the men and its machinery have been swiftly pressed into service to rescue the stuck persons.

Rescue parties of the police, SDRF, Army and GREF have reached the spot, reports said.
