Completion of Chokibal Tamna bridge an incredible dream since last 22 years

Kupwara, May, 28, : In Chokibal area of Northern District Kupwara a bridge, Chokibal Tamana Bridge has not been completed since last 22 years. While demanding its completion from district administration to Leutenant Governor Administration, the people of the area said that the bridge is of utmost importance for the area.
This bridge could have benefited many villages but its completion has been delayed for decades. While talking to this correspondant some agitated elderly people of the area alleged that respective governments didn’t fulfill the promise done to them.

As per records the foundation stone of the bridge was laid by the then National Conference Minister Ali Mohammad Sagar in the year 2000, at an estimated cost of Rs. 90 million, however, after spending more than half of the money, the said bridge was left in abeyance.
It was not considered necessary to complete the bridge, which can be said nothing but only wastage of money from state exchequer.
A person namely Yinda said that the bridge was only way to connect the two areas, but waiting for its completion many people were drowned in the suicide canal Kahmal while crossing it and died.
When this correspondent spoke to other people of the said village they told that mmany promises were made to them regarding the complition of the bridge however, no one’s word has been proved true till today.
Riaz Mahmood the headmaster of a local High School, told this correspondent that he has to send a teacher with the children every day during the rains so that the children would cross the Nala Kahmal. He further said that if God forbid any untoward incident happens the teachers has to face the wrath of the parents. The dream could be fulfilled still and the people could be saved from the wrath of Nala Kahmal he further added.
