Gujjar community members stage protest, demands punishment to accused

Srinagar: A number of youth from Gujjar community staged protest here demanding termination of medicos responsible for the death of newborn after her mother was allegedly not admitted at the LD Hospital here.

The members, activists and youth from Gujjar community assembled under the banner of ‘Gujjar Bakarwal youth conference and all India confederation of SC,ST,OBC.

The members of Gujjar community said that the staff and doctors who refused to admit the woman from their community should be immediately terminated and strict action should taken against them.

“Doctors are supposed to be saviors of humanity. What kind of doctor will refuse to admit a pregnant lady on a bone chilling night when she was referred from a far flung area,” said Zahid Parwaz, state president of Gujjar Bakarwal youth conference.

“Mere attaching the doctors and inquiry won’t do. We want action against senior officers of LD hospital so that such things won’t happen again,” he said.

The members of Gujjar community said that last time same kind of incident took place at Kathua hospital where doctors refused to admit a pregnant lady from Gujjar community.

“We won’t accept these acts negligence,” said Mushtaq Budgami, president all India confederation of SC,ST (Kashmir Unit).

The protesting members of the community threatened to launch an agitation if action is not taken against the medicos.
