‘Khelo India’ centers to be Set Up in Jammu and Kashmir soon: Kiren Rijiju

Gulmarg , Feb 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the ‘Play India’ Winter Games online at the world-renowned ski resort of Gulmarg.

Earlier in the day, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Sports Minister Karen Rejiju announced the launch of the program by lighting a torch. Speaking on the occasion, Manoj Sinha said, “These games are being organized to provide a platform to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.

Khelo India Winter Games 2021 is organized by the Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council in association with Khelo India. The games include Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Karnataka, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Chandigarh, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan. 603 athletes are participating.

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju has said that international level ‘Khelo India’ centers will be set up in Jammu and Kashmir soon.

He said that water sports would be organized in the coming summer at of famous Dal Lake.

He added that participation of Kashmiri athletes in the Olympic Games would be ensured so that they too could get Olympic level Medals.
The minister was addressing the players at the world-renowned Gulmarg in north Kashmir on Friday where Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ‘Khelo India’ Games on virtual mode.

He said that GoI has also approved water sports for Dal Lake in Srinagar in the coming summer. “We will inaugurate water sports in Dale Lake in the summer. Watersports has a great potential in Srinagar and Kashmir” he said.
